I just read a quote that fits me perfectly:
"I don't need time. What I need is a deadline." - Duke Ellington
I don't know who this Duke Ellington person was (I'll have to google him), but this is exactly how I function. Give me all the time in the world to do a project, and it will never get done. Give me a set-in-stone deadline, and you'll have it right on time. I wish I could be a little more efficient, but unfortunately I don't work that way. At least I'm aware of my shortcomings, right?

I work that way, too! I do my best work when I'm under the gun. It must be in-born in us communicators!
