I went home yesterday to visit my parents and meet the mama duck and her babies. While I had a good visit with my parents, the trip had a sad side to it. The duck and the babies disappeared yesterday without a trace. We looked for them most of the afternoon, but we weren't able to find them. The guess is that the mama duck took the babies into the woods where they were probably attacked by a coyote or fox or something.
It breaks my heart that this happened, but I guess that's life. Nature can be cruel, and even little baby ducklings aren't immune to it, no matter how cute they are.
